Time to finish the year strong!

This was an interesting year, because I found myself no longer wanting to read. And then I powered through and in these last few months, I found my spark for reading that I haven’t had since honestly, I was a freshman in high school.

Because I didn’t read for a good five months this year, I found myself not being able to read every single book I wanted to read this year. Some of the titles that were supposed to be read in my 12 books this year, due to some unexpected returns, such as the ACOTAR series, and the Twilight Saga I find myself going to read them in 2024 and my goal for 2024 is 20 books now that I have a pace for reading again!

The list for December is a mix of wanting to continue the Sarah J Maas books, finish the Dune series, as well as sprinkling some books I bought from local libraries this year. I plan on reading the crescent city series next month around the time of the release of the new book. I also plan on again reading books that I didn’t get to this year at some point next year. I also want to donate most of my collection to my nonprofit’s book drives that recycles gently used secondhand books for people who cannot afford them. So I will try to read any books in my collection that I don’t mind giving away at least one more time.

All that out the way, this is how I plan to end 2023:

The Creative Act

The Creative Act is a beautiful and generous course of study that illuminates the path of the artist as a road we all can follow. It distills the wisdom gleaned from a lifetime’s work into a luminous reading experience that puts the power to create moments—and lifetimes—of exhilaration and transcendence within closer reach for all of us.

Marilyn in Manhattan

In Manhattan, the most famous woman in the world can wander the streets unbothered, spend hours at the Met getting lost in art, and afternoons buried in the stacks of the Strand. Marilyn begins to live a life of the mind in New York; she dates Arthur Miller, dances with Truman Capote and drinks with Carson McCullers. Even though she had never lived there before, in New York, Marilyn is home.

Breaking Dawn

Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating, and unfathomable, consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella's life--first discovered in Twilight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse--seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed... forever?

High Society: The Life of Grace Kelly

In just seven years–from 1950 through 1956–Grace Kelly embarked on a whirlwind career that included roles in eleven movies. From the principled Amy Fowler Kane in High Noon to the thrill-seeking Frances Stevens of To Catch a Thief, Grace established herself as one of Hollywood’s most talented actresses and iconic beauties. Her astonishing career lasted until her retirement at age twenty-six, when she withdrew from stage and screen to marry a European monarch and became a modern, working princess and mother.

Kennedys: Stories of Life and Death from an American Family

Kennedys: Stories of Life and Death from an American Family collects 21 of the best stories about the Kennedys. Here are the real stories of brothers John, Robert, and Teddy, told by the finest political writers and social observers of the past half-century.

Animal Farm

A farm is taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. With flaming idealism and stirring slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice, and equality. Thus the stage is set for one of the most telling satiric fables ever penned—a razor-edged fairy tale for grown-ups that records the evolution from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism just as terrible.

TOG books in publishing order

Throne of Glass is a high fantasy novel series by American author Sarah J. Maas, beginning with the entry of the same name, released in August 2012. The story follows the journey of Celaena Sardothien, a teenage assassin in a corrupt kingdom with a tyrannical ruler, the King of Adarlan.

Have you read these books, and will you be joining me in any of them this month? I’d love to hear from you all! Check out the Bibliotheque tab for more information on books and challenges… happy reading!
